Notes - Other explorers

During the class period, we discussed about some other early explorers from Europe to America. In general, most of them are inhumane in treating natives. Below are notes took from class

• Francisco Pizarro - Conquered Incas which inhabited in South America
• Juan Ponce de leon - Believed in the Fountain of Youth in Florida (Florida means "Full of flowers"
• Francisco de cononado - West US
• Catholic priest set up missions to teach their religion to natives. Basically they are tying to convert indigenous people to Catholic.
• Natives worked as slaves in silver mines. There is still a large demand in labor - More slaves brought in from Africa - These people are HORRIBLE :(
• Triangular slave trading system: European brought supplies and good to Africa - Slaves are brought into America from Africa - Gold, silver, and other goods are brought back to Europe

Note - Hernan Cortes

Today our main topic is a man called Hernan Cortes, who is both a great conquer and mass murder. 

• He was bored in 1485 in a noble family and went to Mexico in 1519 for conquering Aztecs and seizing gold and silver.  
• The Aztecs are extremely outgunned agains Hernan Cortes' troop and become eradicated quickly with cannons, horses, and diseases in 1521
• Early European people lived in a very filthy environment and grew immunity for deadly diseases, while Aztecs was lived in a fairly clean city and thus very susceptible from those diseases. 
• Hernan Cortes first destination was Cuba. He burned his ship immediately after arrival to prevent his people from escaping and force them to follow him. 

Test Review

Today we did a test review on the chapter 1 test. I got a 100 on it and was very delightful. Mr. Schick let us read and answer the question one by one. It was a fun time since everyone is pretty much fully engaged and doing great in answering questions. Mr. Schick actually had a list about what questions we got wrong, which provide us a comprehensive view about the overall difficulty of the test.

Test - EASY

The test today was very simple for me and i spend 15 minute complete it.

After the test Mr. Schick assigned us to read Pg 20 - 25 and answer the review questions

Review game

Today Mr. Schick discussed about the test questions that made by us yesterday. He pick three out of nine questions from everyone. It was a fun time since a lot of questions are very interesting. My favorites are Ryan's Shabi question and Suky's question. Our test will be on next Monday and I hope the difficulty will be fair enough for us :D

Sep 14 - HW review, Columbus

During the first mod of the class, Mr. Schick told us to introduce our National Anthem and sing it. Me and my Chinese fellow had sing our Chinese National Anthem and i felt really happy since i haven't sing that song for almost a year. Later when we are reviewing our homework, Mr. Schick vividly demonstrate us how scary and cruel the Viking is by showing us their picture and a metal song from a band call "Led Zeppelin", which favors me a lot. After that Robert had volunteer to be our teacher in reviewing homework. It was fun to have him to talk about his history and answering our questions. In the end, Mr. Schick revealed us the dark side of Christopher  Columbus, which is very surprising for us.
