1. To shorten the period of war since North is more sustainable in resources due to its large population and factories.

4. It is the turning point of the civil war since the South had large casualty and could never again be strong enough to contrive a big attack to North. 

Section Review

1. The capture of Vicksburg gave the Union force full control of the Mississippi river. 

2. North knew that South is plan to break the blockade by building ship covered with iron; South is unable to break the blockade since North has a ironship that is as strong as that of the South. 

3. To force the Union to make peace. 

4. Northern: The South ain't fight back anymore!
